When you are in the mood for the flavor of apple pie, my great-grandma has a ton of options, but the Danish Pastry is one of the best. Cinnamon candies combine with tart apples and a flaky crust for a dessert combination that is good hot or cold.
I made this recipe last spring when my sister came to visit. I wanted to give her a taste of the apples from my tree and searched through my recipes for the perfect recipe. I contemplated cakes and cookies and breads, but with the leftover cornflakes from the cornflake bars and leftover cinnamon candies from another recipe, this recipe looked like the perfect answer.
While the men went outside to cut down a tree and my sister napped with her daughter, I whipped this Danish Pastry together. By the time the mulberry tree was down, my house smelled like apples and cinnamon and the girls were starting to stir.
Before our friend left, I served him a piece of this slab-style pie and gave him another couple of pieces to go. I snitched some of the crumbs and then used the knife to cut myself another small sliver. It wasn’t going to be necessary to get a plate, I just wanted to taste a little bit and I still had to make supper.
I should’ve just cut myself a full piece of the pastry because as soon as that first sliver was gone, I wanted to cut another.
Everyone else got a taste of the Danish Pastry after they’d eaten a good dinner.
This autumnal recipe is a keeper. Try serving it with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream. Have you tried it yet? What are you waiting for?
